In line with our COVID-19 policy enhancements, there are some temporary changes to how we do things, all of which is contained in this document. Please wash your hands regularly and use the hand sanitisers provided.
The Shandon Hotel & Spa has unmatched views over Sheephaven Bay, we are fortunate that we are situated on the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way, and may I take this opportunity to encourage you to take in this beautiful location, be it a drive on Horn Head or a stroll on Marble Hill Beach which is on our doorstep.

The Shandon Hotel Leisure Centre is available to all residents free of charge. Please note the Leisure Centre will be closed for refurbishment after Easter for at least two months.
The facilities include a 17.5 metre swimming pool and kids pool. Please phone extension 454 for more information.
We ask that you wear your robe and slippers to the Leisure Centre and change and shower in your room due to Covid-19 guidelines. If you do not have enough robes in your room please dial 0 and we will provide more.
Please note our leisure centre is due to refurbishment after Easter 2022. We apologise about its look and feel at present. We apologise if this closure affects your stay.
You will be required to wear a swim cap which can be purchased at the Leisure Centre reception. Towels will be provided to residents. If you do not have a robe and slippers in your room, please dial 0 now and we will have them sent up to you.
Monday – Thursday: 8am – 11am and 5pm to 8pm
Friday, Saturday and Sunday : 8am-8pm
To accommodate swimming lessons the leisure centre is will be closed for a short period during your stay, for more information on this, please call our leisure centre on 454 before you arrive to ensure that there are no lessons that will affect your time in the pool.
- Children under 12 must have an adult in the water with them at all times
- There is no life guard on duty, so it is your responsibility to ensure your child’s safety
- Health suite is strictly 18’s and over
- Swim hats must be worn by all pool users
- Swim hats can be purchased for €4 per person
- Please note we do not have credit card facilities, cash or room charge only
- Towels are provided by the leisure club for Residents only.
- Swimsuits, shorts and other accessories are available to purchase
All Bedrooms are Non-Smoking, if you chose to ignore this policy and smoke in the bedroom you will be charged for the costs involved in deep cleaning the room and loss of revenue while the room is unable to be sold.
Costs will also apply should you cause damage to hotel property.
Bathrobes, Hairdryers etc are provided for your use while in the hotel. If you wish to take them home, they can be purchased from Reception. Please note there will be a charge made for items removed from the bedrooms without authorisation.
For the comfort of all our residents we would ask you to keep noise levels to a minimum after 9pm particularly when retiring late at night. Please consider the enjoyment of your neighbours, especially those with young children.
The management reserve the right to remove you from the hotel if any of our policies have been breached or if we believe the code of conduct is breached. No refund will be given if your stay is cut short due to your mis-behaviour or failure to follow out policies or heed our warnings.

Our Thermal Spa is for 18’s and over. Residents can enjoy a special rate of €30pp Mon- Fri or €40pp Sat & Sunday for a luxurious 1.5 hour thermal spa session. Please dial 455 from your room is you wish to check availability.
A full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is available in our spa.
We ask that you arrive to the spa in your robe and shower in your room to reduce congestion in our changing area in line with our Covid-19 promise, if you do not have one, please dial ‘0’ and we will provide one. If the weather is not favorable, please wear your outer shoes and we can store them for you when you arrive at the spa.
In line with our COVID-19 policy enhancements, we will only service your room every third night. Each day, fresh towels and sundries will be provided, and we ask that you place rubbish bin outside along with the bag provided for used towels before 10am daily. If you require for your room to be cleaned for any reason or vacuumed, please request this before 10am and note that we will need at least one hour to totally dis-infect your room again. Any entry to your room by our team will require full sanitisation. Please only place towels in the bag that you wish to be replaced in line with our eco-friendly policy.
If you require extra sundries or have any questions in relation to these changes, please do not hesitate in calling reception.
In line with our COVID-19 policy enhancements, we can provide you with writing material, envelops and pre-sanitised pens on request, simply dial 0.
Check Out: All rooms must be vacated before 11am. Late departure is not available at the moment due to the necessity for our enhanced cleaning schedules as a result of Covid-19. The cost of €25 per hour applies if you fail to vacate by 11am sharp.
Account: All accounts should now be either paid in full or pre-authorised for extra charges at check in.
On the morning of departure, if you have any extra changes left to pay, your bill will be slid under your door. We ask that you dial 0 if there are any discrepancies as we will automatically charge the card provided.
We ask that you still come down to hand in your keys when leaving so we can check how everything was and bid you’re a safe journey onwards.

The hotel operates a strict No-Smoking Policy in all of our bedrooms. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a minimum fine of €150.00 with additional charges for lost revenue, as the room will not be able to be resold until deep cleaning has taken place.
Should you choose to ignore this policy, your credit/debit card will be automatically charged accordingly without prior notice.
DAMAGE AND/OR THEFT OF HOTEL PROPERTY: You are liable for any damage caused (whether by the deliberate, negligence, or reckless act to the room (s), hotel’s premises or property caused by you or any person in your party whether or not staying at the hotel during your stay. The Shandon Hotel reserves the right to retain your credit card and/or debit card details as presented at registration and charge the credit /debit card in such amounts as it shall in its sole discretion deem necessary to compensate or make good the cost or expenses incurred or suffered by The Shandon Hotel as a result of the aforesaid. Should this damage come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right and you hereby authorize us to charge your credit or debit card for any damage incurred to your room or the Hotel property during your stay, including and without limitation for all property damage, missing or damaged items, smoking fee, cleaning fee, guest compensation, etc. We will make every effort to rectify any damage internally prior to contracting specialist to make the repairs, and therefore will make every effort to keep any costs that the guest would incur to a minimum.
DAMAGE DISCOVERED AFTER CHECK-OUT: Guest Rooms found with waste scattered around, in complete disorder, and/or “trashed” will be subject to an initial €150.00 maintenance deep cleaning fee, administration fee and/or third-party fees.
DAMAGE TO ROOM: Damage to rooms, fixtures, furnishing and equipment including the removal of electronic equipment, towels, artwork, etc. will be charged at 100% of full and new replacement value plus any shipping and handling charges. Any damage to hotel property, whether accidental or wilful, is the responsibility of the registered guest for each particular room. Any costs associated with repairs and/or replacement will be charged to the credit card of the registered guest. In extreme cases, criminal charges will be pursued. Upon discovery after a guest has checked out and failed to report or attempt to explain the damage, an initial charge of €350.00 will be made to your card, once the exact cost of the damage is ascertained, receipts will be provided to you and if it amounts to less than the initial charge, you will be reimbursed, if it is more, you will be liable for the difference. If accidental damage occurs, it is very important to inform reception on departure.
DAMAGE TO MATTRESSES AND BEDDING: Damage to mattresses and linen including towels, mattress pads, sheets, bedspreads, blankets resulting from the use of body oils, make-up, shoe-polish, etc. will result in a charge for the special cleaning, repair or replacement of the damaged article. An initial charge of €350 applies.
DAMAGE OR TAMPERING WITH FIRE DETECTION SYSTEMS/FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT: The Shandon Hotel reserve the right to take action against any guest or visitor found to have tampered or interfered with any detection equipment throughout the hotel, including detector heads in public areas, guest rooms, break glass points and fire extinguishers. Guests or visitors found to have tampered with any fire detection or fire-fighting equipment will be charged with any costs incurred by the hotel due to their actions and will be evicted from the hotel. Depending on the severity of the guest actions, law enforcement may become involved at the hotel’s discretion. Should the fact that firefighting or detection equipment had been tampered with come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right and you hereby authorize us to charge your credit or debit card for any damage incurred to your room or the Hotel property during your stay, including and without limitation for all property damage, missing or damaged items, smoking fee, cleaning fee, guest compensation, etc.
COVID-19 key changes – We kindly ask for your patience & understanding
We ask for your patience as we navigate the new normal, temporary changes are as follows:
- Enhanced cleaning is required in bedrooms, therefore our temporary check in and check out times are as follows: Check out 11am sharp, Check in 4pm. We ask that you check out promptly and we also ask for your patience because we cannot guarantee check in at 4pm. 4pm will be the earliest you can check in and it is not guaranteed.
- Rooms will no longer be serviced if you are staying 2 nights or less, each day, fresh towels and sundries will be provided, and we ask that you place rubbish bin outside along with the bag provided for used towels before 10am daily. If you require for your room to be cleaned for any reason or vacuumed, please request this before 10am and note that we will need at least one hour to totally dis-infect your room again. Any entry to your room by our team will require full sanitisation.
- We are not in the position to offer late check outs or early check in times at present.
- Our spa is open with occupancy restrictions, booking in advance is necessary and subject to availability due to restrictions on capacity in line with social distancing requirements and cleaning schedules. Our Thermal Spa will operate a managed rotation and per facility to allow physical distancing and sterilizing between groups.

Shandon Hotel Fire Emergency Evacuation Procedure
The following arrangements have been made by Hotel Management to ensure fast and professional action in case of an emergency:
- Technical Installations:
Smoke Detectors: Rising smoke triggers the alarm of the concerned area and sends a signal to the hotel internal fire panel. Through the signal the Fire Marshal can identify the type of alarm and the area concerned. All guests are asked to respond to the alarm when raised and evacuate to the Muster point in the main Car Park at the foot of the steps.
Emergency Call Points: These will activate the fire alarm panel and the alarm bell/sounder will ring. Once the fire alarm/evacuation has been triggered you are asked to leave the hotel for your own safety. Please stay calm and follow the instructions of our trained staff and Fire Marshals. Inside of your room you will find the information regarding the nearest emergency exit in relation to your bedroom within the hotel.
- Escape Routes: Green illuminated panels with white arrows point to the next emergency exit, all guests should follow this route to the nearest final exit point and make their way to the car park and await instructions.
- Lifts: All lifts will immediately go to ground floor once a fire alarm has been activated. DO NOT USE LIFTS IN CASE OF A FIRE!
- Disabled Guests: All disabled guests are registered at reception and with housekeeping. A member of the Management Team will assist with evacuation, along with the Fire Authority, when they arrive if necessary.
Fire Safety and Evacuation Regulations for Guests at the Shandon Hotel & Spa
FIRE SAFETY IS IMPORTANT – ALWAYS STAY CALM!
In case of a fire near you: – Go to and press the fire Emergency Point closest to you, this will set the alarm for the Hotel, the Fire Panel will register the area that the fire is located; the hotel Trained Staff and Fire Marshals will start to evacuate the hotel. If a fire starts in your room, please evacuate and use the nearest Fire Alarm. The fire detector will identify the location.
The following are not permitted in the bedrooms:
- Candles lit and placed anywhere in the room
- Smoking in the room
- Light material placed over bed lamps to create ambiance
- Any gaming equipment plugged in must not be left unattended; It must be shut down and unplugged
- Do not leave any electronic devices charging whilst you are not present
EVACUATION: All guests are responsible for evacuating their bedroom and leave the hotel by the nearest exit; Management and Fire Marshals will only be present in the common areas, so it is important to know how to safely leave your room and get to the Muster Point, as indicated on the fire safety notice in your bedroom; do not take belongings; report to the Muster Point in the Car Park and make yourself known to the member of staff taking names.
It is only safe to return to the hotel or spa after a full inspection has taken place and Senior Management or a member of the Fire Authority says it is safe to do so.
Reporting Of Accidents and Incidents
Any Accidents or Incidents that happen/occurs whilst at the Shandon Hotel or Spa must be reported to reception as soon as it is practicable; this must be recorded in the Accident/Incident book and be investigated by a manager. Any guest who does not report an Accident or Incident does so at their own risk.
